Unit 3 - Project Brief

This photography project unit 3 is a unit that I have the opportunity to create my own brief. I have decided to choose: close up. I would especially like to focus on close up/ extreme close up because of the detail and beauty it allows nature/ man made objects to be. Close up  will also allow the beauty of nature and man made objects to be seen in huge detail and will bring out the vibrant colours even better then seen by the naked eye. Furthermore I would also like to focus on close up portraits and facial features for example the eye . To make my project even more interesting I will also experiment with techniques I have learnt for example depth of field and blurring in my close up photography. I have chosen this brief for my unit 3 project because I believe that both close up photography of nature and man made have a lot ideas that I can be inspired by and develop.

This photograph is showing the technique extreme close up of nature. This is an example of a photograph I would like to re create in my own way. I really like how the detail and colours are very sharp and high quality. Also how the flower fills the whole space in the photograph. This will be interesting for me as even though the photograph is very simple the editing part of this photography will allow myself to be very creative.

I also find this photograph very interesting because I like the idea of focusing on a particular section for example the petals. This is because it allows different angles to be used. It also is makes the photograph different as its not just a simple photograph of a flower positioned in the centre. I have been looking at a variety of extreme close up photographs that influence me and this is one of them. I feel that there is so many in the photography industry that will help me create my project.

I have been looking at the photographer Anna Omioteke- Tott as her work consists of flowers and nature all close up and extreme close up. The reason her work intrigues me is because her work shows the different seasons of flowers and this expresses the life cycle of nature. Her work inspires me because the angle she takes them and how the technique depth of field is also used in most of them which makes them more interesting to look at.

I really like how this photograph has made this photograph have a spark affect as the whole photograph is gleaming as if the flowers are on fire. The colours are very vibrant which bring warmth to the photograph. As well as the flower surrounding the whole photograph leaving no wasted space. The colours and composition of this photograph will help me to produce my own photographs nature inspired.

This photograph is also part of Anna's portfolio of nature. This photograph is an example of depth of field and captures the deep blue colours very well as it creates a cold and calm affect. The idea of using depth of field allows the front flowers to be seen as the main focus and make the blurred background of the other flowers create an interesting picture. Instead of a plain and boring background. I really like how this photograph exaggerates the height of these flowers by taking it from a low angle.I feel that the photograph Anna will help me with my own project and will inspire me with her ideas that I can re create and develop from.

I have also been looking at close up portraits and close up facial feature photographs focusing on the human eye especially. The photographs I have been looking at are mainly of close up faces and different angles of the human eye.

All three of these photographs show the human eye close up but in different ways whether its through the editing stage or the framing and composition of the photograph. I really like the ideas of using black and white, however not converting the centre of the eye this makes the close up detail of thr actual pupil much more clearer and fascinating to look at. All these ideas are going to influence me with my own work and inspire me.

I feel that I can approach this project with much more confidence this is because my previous project 'Personal comment' was the first project that I had done that had the specification to create my own shoots and ideas without any help. I found it a struggle to begin with but now I understand how to plan my shoots and have a lot of inspirations through photographers I have come across through my AS units. My main target for myself is to plan my shoots before I come to shoot this is because I will make this unit so much easier for myself as being organised will allow my creativity to show in my photographs.

To start this project I am going to begin with close up nature photographs. This is because I feel it will give me a good start to my personal project and will also be something that I have a lot of inspiration for which is shown above. I am aiming to capture high quality photographs of flowers and take a variety of different angles to present in a grid for multiple imagery.

Close up - image bank

This photograph is an example of the technique close up this is because it is a photograph of rose that has been taken close up to show the detail and beauty of the flower. The deep and vibrant shades of orange in the rose stand out and make the photograph very intense and stunning to look at. This photograph covers the whole of the space which makes it even better as its the main focus with no distractions. This photograph is inspiration of my own project as nature is something I would like to photograph for my own project.
This photograph is also a photograph using the technique close up and is also showing the beauty of nature. The bright yellow and bold black colors express the beauty of this flower and the close up technique allows the detail to be shown much clearer. This photograph has the sun shining on it very brightly and this also makes the detail of this captivating flower stand out. I really like how this photograph is close up and is has been angled to not have the flower directly facing the camera.
This photograph also shows the technique close up and is a photograph of a giraffe bending down with its tall neck. This photograph has been edited in black and white which is very effective as it brings out the bold tones in the giraffes body and eye. I really like how this photograph also shows the technique depth of field and this creates the giraffes face to be very sharp and stand out as the main focus. The photographer has captured the giraffe in a very awkward position to show its shy personality which makes the photograph look very breath taking.
This is also another close up photograph of nature but instead of a lady bird on an individual leaf. This photograph captures the beauty of nature through its bright and bold colors and the shine on both the lady bird and the leaf. I really like how this photograph is close up so that it allows any consumer to see the true detail of nature and how captivating it is. I really like how the photographer has captured the lady bird climbing a leaf as the colors clash which makes this close up photograph stand out even more. I really like exploring nature photograph therefore this could be an idea for my own project.
This photograph is showing the technique close up however this photograph is man made objects which are coloring pencils. The colors in this photograph burst with vibrancy which make this photograph look very fun and captivating. The technique used in this photograph is close up which allows the sharpness and high quality of the photograph to stand out and the low angle of this photograph makes this photograph very different to consume.
Lastly this photograph shows the technique close up. This photograph is of a Caterpillar on a stem the luminous greens and yellow colors stand out and because of the close up angle the detail of both the caterpillar and stem are increased in quality. I really like how this close up photograph shows the beauty and life cycle of nature and animals in our world. This photograph has been captured very well as the caterpillars body is positioned to show its every detail. This photograph will give me ideas if I choose to do nature and animals as my own personal project.

Wide angle- photographs

Wide angle- image bank

This photograph has been taken from the beginning of a walk way. The snow on the floors and fences create the photograph to gleam. This photograph demonstrates the technique wide angle because it begins very close up and gradually widens as you look further into the photograph. This photograph is very sharp and the blues and white colors create a very cold affect as its showing the beauty of winter. I feel that this photograph could be inspiration for my own project as man made and natural photographs is what I'm thinking of doing.
This photograph shows the technique wide angle and is very different to the other photographs on this image bank. This is because the photograph has been captured from a very different and interesting angle that still creates the wide affect. This photograph shows a man made street and contains very bright colors that don't fade the further it goes. I really like how different this photograph is and by using the wide angle technique makes an average street look very complex.
This photograph also shows the technique wide angle with the photograph of the animal a cow. This photograph is a very creative photograph as it has captured the face of the cow very close up and the wide angle is shown in the background. This is a very fun photograph and because of the high quality of the photograph it allows the detail of the cow to stand out. The colors are very natural in this photograph and the wide angle technique is a very good example to help me with my own wide angle photographs.

This photograph shows the technique wide angle as it captures a couple on their wedding day. The wide angle allows the photograph to be very captivating to look at and allows the couple in the centre to be the main focus. I really like how the photograph has been edited to have a low saturation to make the photograph colorless. This creates a very intimate and romantic feel to the photograph.Overall this photograph is very helpful at helping me with my own wide angle photographs.
This photograph shows a wide angle technique and has been edited very well as the photograph looks very surreal. The bright and vibrant colors are very captivating and stand out to make the wide angle even better.By using the technique wide angle this photograph makes the ocean look very grand and shows how stunning the photograph is.

This photograph shows the technique wide angle with a more basic photograph however the warming colors and high quality makes the photograph look very professional and calming to look at. The wide angle has been angled and captured very well as its one of the best examples I have seen. This photograph will help me with my own wide angle photographs and is a good example of capturing a basic setting and making it look stunning with a wide angle.

Sequence- photographs/ Work diary

      Work Diary
These four photographs above were taken to experiment with the technique sequencing. The aim of this technique is to show a sequence of photographs where a pattern is made. These photographs above make the pattern that spell the word 'Life' this was done by one person in every photograph being added to the shot. This then built up to the final outcome of the word. I chose to do the word 'Life' because life is all about growing up and in this photograph it shows the growth using humans. In the editing stage of this sequence I chose to even out the levels and curves. As well as editing the second and last photograph in black and white this was done to make my photograph look more appealing and presentable to anyone who looks at it. I feel that this photograph was done very well and during the process of capturing these I feel that I learnt a lot about sequencing to inspire me with my own personal project.

Work diary
This animation was also part of experimenting with the technique sequencing. This animation was quick and easy to make once I got an idea of what photographs I wanted to use. This animation was done on Photoshop and was something new that I learnt. The sequence of photographs I used for this animation were each individual person putting there hands in and then up in the air.The sequence of movement they are doing is very simple but looks very effective once its being played continuously. The editing process of this photograph was very simple as well as I just changed the levels and curves of each photograph to create a brightness on the animation. I feel by having this animation very bright reflects the happiness of the models in the animation and also makes the vibrant colors of the grass and bushes stand out.

If I would go back to when I captured all these sequence photographs I would experiment more with the still sequence photographs and use one individual person to show their pattern of movement whether they are running or jumping. I would also change the scenery if we had more time.

Minimum depth of field- photographs/ Work Diary

Work Diary
This photograph shows the technique minimum depth of field. Minimum depth of field is when the focus is on the closet iconic thing in the photograph so in this photograph its my model Taylor. The background is always out of focus as its blurred. In my photograph I used a natural background that has rich colors in the flowers so when it is edited the blur still looks very beautiful and makes the photograph look professional. In the editing stage of this photograph I just changed the levels and curves to give the photograph a natural look to it. I really like this technique as I feel that the photograph look stunning once they have been taken. I also feel that this technique can be used in my own personal project as I would like to experiment more with it.

This photograph was also taken by myself and shows minimum depth of field. However instead I chose to take this photograph with the background man made this was done to show different scenery between both photographs.I feel that this photograph is more harsh as the made made cars and building in the background are very structured. However I really like how far back the background goes which emphasis's the depth of this photograph. In the editing process of this photograph I again chose to change the levels and curves to give the photograph a natural look to it.

If I would go back to this shoot I would take more photographs with nature as in my personal project i'm thinking of doing nature therefore this would help me with knowing what to take photographs of and what works best.

minimum depth of field

This photograph shows the technique depth of field this is because the bright pink tulip is the closest to the camera and is in focus and the background is a blur. This photograph is very appealing because of the bright and vibrant colours as well as the sharpness of the in focus flower as it shows maximum detail in the flower. The flower was specifically taken on the left hand side I think that this looks better than if it was in the centre this is because it allows the depth of the background to be shown and allows more colours to be shown in the photograph. This photograph is eye level which is affective as it allows the eye to be drawn to the main subject straight away. Overall I really like this photograph as its a very simple image however the quality and composition of the photograph makes it seem complex.

This photograph shows the technique depth of field this is shown as the main subject that is in focus is the man and the background which is of a long path is blurred. This photograph shows the main subject the man to be looking down as if he is reflecting on his journey as the path behind him could symbolise how far he has come. This photograph was edited in black and white and I feel that this is very affective as it allows the tones to be boldly shown in the man and the photograph looks more interesting to look at as most depth of field photographs I looked at were in colour. The man has been positioned to the side of this photograph this is a popular way to photograph depth of field this is because it allows the background to be shown. This photograph will be inspiration for my own photographs of depth of field as I will be using a person in my photographs.

This photograph also shows the technique depth of field this is because the main subject closest is the two leaves which are in focus. Behind this is the blurred background. This photograph really stood out to me as the quality and sharpness of this photograph is immense. The bright green in the leaves is very striking and the water on the leaves is very clear and enhances the photograph as it becomes very eye catching. This photograph shows how nature is very beautiful and by using the technique depth of field makes the photograph more interesting to look at. This photograph is very bold because of how large the leaves look and how they have been taken to the side of the photograph to allow the blurred background to be shown.
This photograph has been taken using the technique minimum depth of field and is a photograph of a green lizard on a wall. The colours in this photograph are very vibrant and the blur in the background is very eye catching because of the beaming colours. This photograph shows the main subject to be very small however the sharpness of the lizard makes it stand out as well as it being in focus. Overall I really like how this photograph has been taken as the lizard is in the centre which makes this photograph different to other photographs I have looked at.
This photograph shows the technique depth of field this is because all the background is blurred and the main subject which is the glass bottle is in focus. This photograph has been edited in black and white which I feel give this particular photograph a sophisticated look to it.

Image bank- Image within image

This is a photograph that was taken in New York . The photograph that has been held up stays in line with the city buildings however has been edited in black and white to seem as if it is separate to the setting. The photograph is of the Statue of Liberty and is very well known across the world. The photograph separate to the real scenery is the perfect size and shows an example of the technique image within image. This is a very creative technique and makes a photographs look more imaginative.

This photograph shows the technique image within image and is something similar that I will be doing in photography. This is because the photograph is of a female holding a frame where the setting covered by her is partly shown in the frame. This photograph has a beautiful setting behind the female which is what makes this photograph captivating. I especially like how the female model is standing to the side of the photograph so there is a lot of space showing the distant setting. The colors in this photograph are very warming and don't over power the technique image within image.

This photograph shows the technique image within image and shows the autumn tress and leaves in the frame which are part of the setting. This photograph's autumn colors are very vibrant and create a warmth within the photograph. I like how the frame is covering the persons face as its different to what I have seen. This photograph is very interesting because the picture in the frame shows the depth of the forest and this shows this photograph has been had a lot of thinking before taking.
This photograph shows the technique image within image. This photograph shows the change from one era to another by a person holding up a photograph of the old era in front of what it looks like now. This is very effective as it shows the huge change and makes this photograph very eye catching as well as having a reason why this photograph was captured and created. The colors also show how both individual photographs are from different eras and make it obvious to the consumer they are separate photographs.

This photograph shows the technique image within image in a very complex and creative way. This is because this photograph has been presented where a girl is holding a large frame and it shows herself holding the frame but a smaller version and the last stage shows the brick wall. I really like this photograph because its different and shows how this technique is very captivating. The colors are very sharp and this photograph has been taken to allow the frames to be the main focus as the brick wall is a simple backdrop.
This photograph shows the technique image within image and is shown by a person holding a frame in front of the tree. This photograph isn't very captivating as it doesn't have anything iconic that stands out through the frame. However the colors are very sharp and immediately caught my eye. Also even though this photograph is very simple the way the photographer has edited everything out of the frame to a slight blur makes sure that the picture inside the frame is the main focus.Overall I think that this photograph is a good photograph however it could be more creative and show the beauty of nature more.

Image Bank- Sequence

In this photograph it shows the technique 'Sequence' which is where movement is shown in a sequence of photographs. In this photograph it shows two different breeds of dogs running along the sea front. This is very affective because it shows the stages of the dogs movement getting closer and closer which creates a more interesting photograph. It also looks as if the dogs are moving which as the consumer catches the eye immediately. The colours in this photograph are very natural and the scenery gives off a calming and realistic atmosphere which allows the two dogs to be the main focus. The composition of this photograph is that it is framed very tightly and creates a depth in the photograph. I especially like how the sequence shows the dogs playful nature and also how the water is frozen in the air. I overall really like this photograph and feel that it will help me with my own photographs using the technique of sequence.

This photograph is also another example of the technique sequence and is shown using the sport skiing. The photograph has been taken from an angled birds eye view which makes the technique sequence look more interesting to look at. This photograph has been edited very well as each individual movement has been tightly edited next to each other to create a fluent flow with the individual still movement. I really like how the ski uniform is red which stands out from the white and makes the skier the main focus of the photograph. Furthermore the sequence has been captured in a wave this makes the photograph more fascinating to look at. This sequence is more complex than the photograph above and is a photograph that can inspire me to be more creative.

This photograph sequence was taken by the photographer named Eadweard Muybridge and he had taken this sequence of photographs to prove that when a horse moves at some point all their legs are off the ground. This sequence is also presented in a praxinoscope where the still photographs are shown to be moving. This photograph is a lot different to the two photographs above because it was taken in 1872 therefore technology has developed since then. This is why the photograph is in black and white however I really like how effective it looks and how it looks very vintage and causes the horses movement to stand out very clear and better. The layout of this photograph is something I like and is a way I am going to present one of my photographs using the technique sequence.

This photograph is also showing the technique 'Sequence' however in a different way to the other photographers. This is because it shows a skillful movement in the air which shows the sportsman/women upside down. This instantly caught my eye as its a more interesting set of still movements. The colors in this photograph are very fresh and bright which makes the whole photograph stand out. I also like how the photograph is composed very tightly and doesn't have any wasted space so that the whole focus is on the sequence of movement. This photograph is one of my favorites and is using the topic sport which is an idea that I would like to photograph. Therefore this photograph is inspiration for my own work. Lastly I also like how the photograph was taken where the athlete allows the setting to be shown and show off its beauty.

This photograph also shows the technique sequence and has been shown by a stunt man gliding through the air from the ramp to the hill. This is a very good technique to use because it shows every stage the stunt man has successfully done. Each of the photographs have been tightly positioned to make the photograph look realistic and have no odd photographs shown. The colors are very bright especially the deep blue sky which makes the photograph captivating to look at. This photograph was taken from a low angle to exaggerate the height that the stunt man is at. Overall I really like this photograph because of how stunning it looks from a low angle.

This photograph shows the technique sequence in a series of photographs that show this male model diving into a pool. The angle of this photograph is  high angle and this is so that every photograph part of the sequence is seen. It also creates a beautiful picture as you can see the surroundings and sea which makes this photograph better to look at. I really like how this photograph is different to the others I have looked at because it has a three dimensional effect as if us as the consumers are diving into it. The colors are very vibrant and create a summer vibe. The has no excess space and has been taken with great accuracy as the photograph is very compact.

This photograph is of the sequence of a wale coming out off the water. This photograph is breath taking and shows this animals power. The sequence is presented in a row from when the wale comes out the water to going back in. The naturalistic blue's and grey colors in this photograph create a calming atmosphere and keep the focus on the wales sequence of photographs not the whole picture.
