Personal shoot 12- work dairy
This photograph was taken for my personal project 'Close ups'. This photograph is of a perfume bottle and has used very soft lighting to create a very sophisticated photograph. The idea of photographing a close up picture of a perfume bottle with it standing against a white back drop is very simple. However the simple idea is what makes it a very stunning photograph. The lighting from the light box allows the perfume to look very surreal and creates a marbles texture that can be seen from the close up nature of the photograph. Lastly the soft lighting allows the shiny texture of the bottle reflect and create very aesthetically pretty colors.
This photograph was taken as my last personal project shoot 'Close up'. This photograph is close up of a perfume bottle and the lighting was key in this photograph to make sure the object stands out. The lighting I used was the light box which the perfume was standing on to boost the lighting of the perfume. I also used to blonde lights which reflected of white backdrops. This was done to make sure that the photograph didnt come out too dark. I really like the angle of this photograph this is because I captured it from a low angle to show the spirals downwards. This allows the photograph to look more interesting and makes the photograph look more complex. Furthermore the bright pinks and purples in this photograph are emphasized because of the technique close up used. This photograph is very bold and catches my eye straight away.
If I would go back add more to this shoot I would of taken photographs without the perfume in the bottles to show how I experimented more with the objects.
The idea of the perfume shoot was influenced from previous shoots I had one. For example the food coloring shoot used reflection to make very bold and surreal photographs. I feel that the reflecting perfume bottles gives the same feel as the food coloring photographs however shows how my creative thinking had developed in my close up project.

Personal shoot 11- work Diary
This photograph was taken for my personal project close up photography. The aim of this shoot was to allow the textures of the nail varnishes to stand out using the close up lens and very bright lighting. The reason I chose bright lighting is so that it brings the variety of colours out and also brings out the marble effect of the varnish in the bottles. I especially like how the nail varnishes are in a row and the I had captured the photograph positioning the camera diagonal to the nail varnish allowing a depth to be shown. This also makes the sizes of the nail varnishes different to show a variety of levels to make the photograph more interesting. This shoot was a very successful shoot and I am very happy with the outcomes. However to improve this photograph I could of used more nail varnishes to emphasise the depth of the row of nail varnishes more.
This photograph was also taken for my personal project close up and is a photograph of three bottles of nail varnish. The reason I chose these three colours was because they all complement each other as the pale colours emphasise the prettification that fine art/ close up photograph brings to photographs. The positioning of the nail varnishes allow the pink nail varnish to be shown very boldly and be the main focus of the photograph because the whole of the product is in focus and the pink colour is very bright which makes this photograph even more appealing for its audience. The other two nail varnishes are partly hidden this is to show nail varnishes in a more interesting way instead of in a accurate row. Furthermore if I would improve this photograph I would of taken the photograph using the white and blue as the main focuses to see which colour looks aesthetically better as the main focus.
If I would go back and add to this shoot I would of taken more photographs to give myself more of a variety to edit. I would also taken more birds eye view shots as all the ones I took were not a success in my eyes.
This photo shoot was influenced from previous photographs that I had done. This is because the idea of the food coloring shoot creating a liquid effect made me really interested in this idea as the photographs were very successful. Therefore the connection I made was that the liquid in nail varnish would show this in a different way to get an outcome of a man made product combined with the texture of liquids to overall summaries my close up project.

Overall Evaluation
This project was a personal project which means that me as a student photographer had the opportunity to pick my own topic and choose my own photography shoots in studio or location. I chose to photograph close up photography because I felt that I had a lot of ideas for this topic and felt that I would have enough influences to allow my work to be improved and be inspired by. I made sure that my topic close up was a good idea so I planned my shoots in advance to make sure I hadn't ran out of ideas. The reason I did this was because in my previous project in my first year 'Personal' I had ran out of ideas and had to improvise a lot. This didn't happen in this project this is because close up photography is a very broad topic that me as the photographer can photograph anything I wanted as long as it brought out vibrant colors and textures that are shown much clearer. I also really enjoyed this topic therefore ideas came much easier to mind as I wasn't bored of what I was shooting.
In addition to make sure I had the correct knowledge and understanding of close up photography before I captured my own close up photographs I did an: project brief, definition page, image bank, research log and analysis of 5 photographers. The project brief was made to make sure my topic made sense and I know hundred percent what path I was going down to make my project the best that it can be. The definition page was made to gather an understanding of the meaning of close up and this was done by getting a dictionary definition, a list of words relating to close up, 4 analysis of close up photography and my own definition. This definition page was very helpful as it allowed me to get an understanding of close up and what was needed to capture a successful photograph. Further more the image bank allowed me to get a lot of ideas and inspiration from photographs that already exist showing the close up technique. This had also helped me develop my own ideas that I already had for the beginning of my close up project. The research log and analysis of the the 5 photographers was where I gained my inspiration from as researching 20 photographers work had helped me see the key elements needed to produce a close up photograph. Also researching and exploring further into 5 photographers made me more interested in my topic I chose and allowed me to gain knowledge on the growth of close up photography as the different photographers were from different time periods. One thing that I gained from the analysis of the 5 photographers I chose was how to angle the shots and what backdrops work better with certain object for example fruits.
Following all of these stated above I then captured all my shoots as part of my personal project close up's. After each shoot I did a work diary this was an analysis of two of my most successful photographs that I edited. This was very important as it was a small evaluation of my shoot and showed my improvements I had to make for my next shoot or the points I excelled at which made my work even better.I also had to state if I would add anything to this shoot if I had the chance to go back to it what would I do. This was very helpful as well as when I had time left after I finished everything I knew exactly what to improve on or add on to each shoot.
Towards the end of the project I had to write 5 connecting essays this was where I would connect my own photographs with photographs that already exist from professional photographers. This was done to show how my work at the end of the project was inspired and constructed from photographers that shoot close up's.I then annotated both of them and summarized them both with a conclusion stating the connection made. The connection made for example was the same main focus taken or the same structure they were presented in.
To break away from all the writing and photo shoots I had followed instructions for six print techniques these were: image within image, image and text, weaving, cluster, selective color, overlay,duo-tone, framing, montage and repetition . These made editing very fun and exciting to do and was editing techniques which made my work more interesting and fun to look at. By completing these print techniques also made my photographs look very complex and improved my knowledge and skills using the technology Photoshop.
During this personal project 'Close up's' I have learnt a number of different things. The first one being my skills in Photoshop. This has been improved as I have learnt how to use different effects and one important thing I have learnt is animation this is because this is something I didn't know in my previous projects. However I have found it very easy to do and made it a key aspect in my personal project. Before my personal project began we as a photography class had to photograph all different technique a few being multiple flash, blurring and wide angle. The three techniques that I used in my personal project were multiple imagery, animation and video. The reason I chose these three techniques was because they best fit with close up and made the close up object look better and more complex. By using these techniques has shown how I have taken on board the skills I have learnt and used them in my own project.
Overall this personal project has improved my creativity in photography and has helped me extend my knowledge on my topic close up to create very striking photographs. This project has given me confidence and boost in photography as everything I had done in this project was personal to me and was done individually which shows my skills independently and how I can manage my own time and complete this project successfully. Lastly the one thing that has stood out to me and that I have learnt best in this project is to always organize a shoot in advance and take a lot of photographs even if I thought they wouldn't work out. This then gives me a variety of photographs to edit for my project close up's.

Connecting Essay 5
This photograph was taken in my first personal project and was taken on location. The two techniques used in this photograph are close up and multiple imagery. This photograph comes under the category of fine art photography as the bright and vibrant pinks and purples in the flower illuminates in every photograph. The idea of presenting these photographs in a multiple imagery grid allows the different angles to be shown. The different angles allow this photograph to look very interesting and creative to look at.
This is because the flowers create different shapes which make this photograph very appealing and because of some of the individual photographs being close up and some being extreme close up shows a difference in each photograph even though they are the same flower. Furthermore this multiple imagery photograph also conveys the life cycle of a flower this is because this multiple imagery photograph shows the flower at its best as the petals and colors look so healthy and bright as the natural lighting of the outside contribute to this. Also the natural lighting also allow the texture of the flower to be seen much clearer. This is because the fragile and smooth petals with the clear water droplets on them make these photographs look very pretty and show how beautiful nature really is.
This photograph was taken by the photographer 'Pelle Cass' and is a a variety of photographs of nature. This photograph shows a multiple amount of photographs however presented in a very random order to grab its audience's attention at how busy the photograph is. Each photograph is folded over showing a triangle shape this shows the different photographs overlaying each other to produce a fascinating photograph. The individual photographs are photographs of nature and are all close up photographs showing a journey. The rich and vibrant shades of greens stand out and create a puzzle as you don't know where each photograph belongs. This photograph also allows the textures and tones to stand out because of the close up technique of the photographs. The rough texture of the bark on the tree's and the smooth texture of the pebbles and the paths are highlighted. Furthermore the different angles used in this photograph makes these nature close up photographs look more intriguing and emphasizes the random pattern of photographs. Overall I have gained a lot of influences from this photographer and this photograph and this has helped my personal project increase in success.
Both these photographs connect because they both have the main topic of nature and flowers in them this is because both these photographs are reflecting the beauty of nature and representing the category of fine art photography. Also both of these photographs are presented showing multiple imagery however in a different structure as my own photograph is in a organised grid where as Pelle Cass's photograph is very random.

Connecting Essay 4
This photograph was one of the first photographs I took and was taken on location. This photograph shows the use of the technique close up and this technique has been used because it allows the detail of the center of the flower and the detail in the petals to be seen very clear and expressed the beauty of nature. This photograph is an example of fine art showing prettification in nature. This is because the soft but bright colors allow the flower to blossom with beauty and to be seen as something to admire. This close up photograph has been taken from a birds eye view as the angle is looking down over the flower. This is shown very well as the flower fills the whole of the space in the photograph leaving no excess wasted space and allows the audience to be instantly attracted to the main focus the flower. This photograph has also been taken to allow the audiences eyes to be drawn straight to the center of the flower giving the audience a direction to look at.
This photograph was taken by the photographer Keith Taylor and is a close up photograph of a flower. This photograph also shows the technique depth of field as the background that is further in the distance is blurred. The reason this has been done is to allow the extreme close up of the center of the flower to stand out and be the main focus. This photograph has also exaggerated the colors to make them look very bright and vibrant especially the center of the flower. This is evidence that this photograph is fine art photography and also shows from the colors the beauty of this flower. This photograph has been taken from a very different intriguing angle which makes this photograph look very striking and sharp to look at. The flower covers the whole of the photographs space which allows the audience to immediately see this photograph and make sure it stands out to them. Furthermore the extreme close up technique also brings out the texture of the flower even more. This is because as a viewer I can see the smooth texture of the petals and how delicate they are in real life. This shows that this photograph was taken so well that the photograph looks realistic even though its a copy of the real flower. Both these photographs connect because they both are close up photographs of flowers that emphasize bright and vibrant colors within them. Both of these photographs also allow the formal element of texture to stand out and make both of the photographs realistic when looking at them. Furthermore both of these photographs come under the category of fine art photography and the colors and main focus which are flowers are evidence for this. Lastly both photographs show the beauty of nature and how flowers are very pretty and striking plants that contain delicate and fragile parts to them this is shown because of the similar angles and how both photographs cover the whole photograph to avoid any wasted space.
Connecting Essay 3
This photograph shows the diffusion of food coloring in water and shows the combination of red and blue food coloring coming together. This photograph has been taken for my personal project close up and the technique close up has been shown very accurately. The close up technique allows the bright and vibrant colors to stand out massively as this photograph is very reliant on its colors to appeal to its audience.Furthermore this photograph is very creative as it was captured by dropping food coloring in a tub of water to see the colors disperse and create a fascinating outcome. The creativity that is shown in this photograph reflects fine art very well as the use of bright colors is one of the main elements in fine art photography. In this photograph there is a obvious contrast between both colors which makes the meeting point between both colors even more obvious and makes this photograph look very well planned and structured. Lastly this photograph shows still movement as if you observe this photograph it looks as if the food coloring is still spiraling in the water.Overall I am very happy with this photograph and feel that it has been one of my best outcomes out of all of my personal project.
This photograph was taken by the photographer 'Scott Meads' and is part of his photography project 'Silent movements' this photograph highlights peace and harmony in this photograph because of the due-tone colors of grey and the contrast of white create a settled feeling to the photograph. This photograph shows very well the formal element of pattern and is a very calming and surreal photograph that as an viewer can identify it as anything they read from it. This photograph is also using the technique close up and shows water droplets diffusing together to make a unique and striking photograph. This photograph also allows the texture of the close up photograph to stand out very well and shows the delicateness of the water droplets very well. Furthermore vibrant lighting has been used to create shadows in this photograph and allows this photograph to look three dimensional which makes this photograph look even more creative and styled. This photograph has been one of my main influences for my shoot of food coloring and has given me ideas for my own photographs.
In conclusion both these photographs connect because they both show water and food coloring diffusing together to make striking and fascinating photographs. They both use the technique close up to allow the texture and detail to be seen much clearer for its audience. Furthermore both photographs have been taken from a birds eye view and this allows all of the patterns to be seen which allows both photographs to look very creative and fascinating to look at.
