Personal shoot 8- Work diaries
This photograph was taken for my personal shoot 8 as part of my close up personal project. This photograph is a close up of playing cards which
has been organised to only show the heart in the centre of the cards. This idea is to show how love is the centre of everything. By editing this photograph in black and white and then erasing the heart back to its original colour made this photograph stunning to look at. This photograph also shows an old fashioned appearance to it and makes this photograph very simple but interesting to look at. Overall I really like how this photograph has turned out and would like to develop this shoot in my own time.
This photograph was also taken for my personal shoot 8 and shows the technique close up. The playing cards are organised to show a spiral effect which makes this photograph very unique and different as they aren't just set out in a straight line. The editing process of this photograph was to begin with adjusting the curves and levels to get the lighting correct. Then converting the whole photograph to black and white and then erasing the diamonds on the number 10 card back to their original colour. This makes this photograph look very professional as it doesn't have to much red to make the photograph look false its the right amount.
If I would go back and add and improve this shoot I would of found a photographer or inspiration to gather more ideas to make this photo shoot more interesting. I would of also taken more photographs with the use of a different technique for example studio blurring.
This shoot was influenced from the previous shoot and video showing color emerge. The color that stood out to me was the color red. This was because the color red is a very bright and vibrant color. It also has a connotation of love which is the reason I have photographed playing cards as it shows the symbol of love. The idea of using the technique selective color in them has been influenced by all of my photographs through out my portfolio as this has been a technique that has worked very well along side the technique close up.

Connecting Essay 2
This photograph is a macro photograph as it uses the technique close up to show the detail of the eye. The detail in this photograph is very intense as it shows the structure of the human eye which makes this photograph look very fascinating. The editing process of this photograph was that by converting the whole photograph to black and white and then erasing the pupil back to its original colour will make the audiences eyes instantly drawn to the pupil as its the main focus. Furthermore the quality of this photograph allows the detail of the human eye to be seen in a more interesting way as it is shown much clearer. By photographing the human eye also allows the audience to see the detail they may not have noticed in person. In addition the close up technique in this photograph increases being able to identify and see the texture as the eye looks very smooth and glossy which emphasises how delicate the human eye is. Also the framing of this photograph has been taken very well because it makes sure that the eye lashes are not cut out and the eye is in the centre. All of the above makes this photograph look very sophisticated and professional which overall makes this photograph a success.
This photograph was taken by the photographer Suren Manvelyan and is a close up photograph of the humans eye. This close up photograph allows the human eye to express its beauty. The close up nature of this photograph also allows the detail and texture to stand out. This is because the detail in the eye has been taken so well that the structure of the eye is shown with such depth. Furthermore the smooth and glossy appearance of the eye allows the delicate and smooth texture to be shown much clearer and make this photograph look very intriguing to look at. This photograph is part of Suren's project of beautiful eyes including animal eyes. This photograph was displayed in magazines and several newspapers one being the Telegraph. This photograph as well as showing its beauty also looks very scientific. This is because Suren was also teaching science and mathematics this reflects in his work and this photograph especially as it shows his outcome of research on the human eye and how it is structured and formed. This photograph was big inspiration for my shoot therefore I have enjoyed researching Suren Manvelyan.
Both these photographs connect because they both are close up photographs of the human eye. The close up techniques in both of these photographs allow the texture, detail and colours to be expressed and seen much clearer. This makes both photographs very interesting to look at. Furthermore they both show the beauty of human by showing the eye in a radiant way to show to there audience how delicate and pretty our eyes are. These photographs are also very interesting because from an audience's perspectives they can admire a feature that they have.
Connecting essay 1
This photograph is using the technique close up and in photography terms is known as macro. I especially like how the close up photography brings out the texture of the orange slice better. This is because from an audiences perspective I can see the juicy and delicate texture from the vibrant shades of orange being produced. Furthermore the use of an extreme close up lens allows the detail in the orange to stand out and make this photograph more interesting to look at. This photograph has also been accurately taken as it doesn't show any background or distractions therefore making sure the orange slice is the main focus. This photograph was taken using very bright lighting and this is shown as the colours are very warming and bright. This creates an exciting and fun sense to the photograph. In addition the striking colours also make this healthy fruit very tasteful. The editing process of this photograph was very simple as adjusting the curves and levels allowed the colours to be shown clearer and adding more warmth to the photography created an aesthetically pleasing photograph. Overall I feel that this photograph was a success and that it was one of my best photographs in this specific shoot.
This photograph was captured by the photographer Heather Angle and was produced as part of her macro photography. This photograph is very eye catching because of its extremely vibrant shades of green in the kiwi. This fruit is a very interesting fruit to photograph as the detail in the seeds create a striking pattern that make this close up photograph stand out. The idea of using an extremely close up lens to only capture the centre of the kiwi allows this fruit to be seen as very bold as the detail is shown much clearer. Furthermore this photograph contains different tones as the light and dark tones make this photograph look three dimensional and as if they are coming towards you. This photograph was captured on a light box and because of its optimum angle and cropping skills this photographs composition is very accurate and affective. Furthermore this photograph is very reliant on the lighting and colour as without these this photograph wouldn't be as exciting. Lastly because this photograph uses the technique close up the texture in this photograph is very detailed and out can see the juicy texture immediately. Both these photographs above have a connection because they both are macro photographs that show close up very well because of their vibrant colours and extreme close up composition. Both photographs have a main focus of fruit as my photograph is of an orange slice and Heather Angle captured a kiwi. Both these photographs are similar as aesthetically they both contains bright lighting and are very reliant on these to allow the texture and tones within them to stand out.

Personal shoot 7- Work diary
This photograph is for my personal shoot seven. This shoot was expressing the bright colours of the food colouring through pouring them in water to see the outcome. In this photograph I feel best achieved the outcome I wanted this is because the photograph shows the two colours merging into each other as well as a tie dye affect. The close up technique allows the bright colours to stand out even more and the detail of the pattern. I really like how this photograph covers the whole of the photograph as then it creates the photograph to look explosive. Furthermore this photograph looks very creative and is one of my favourite shoots so far in my personal project close ups.
This photograph was also for my personal project close ups. This photograph was created by pouring both blue and red food colouring in a plastic tub to create a liquid base with water. Then I photographed myself in motion of pouring the blue food colouring in the mixture. This photograph was the outcome and I feel that this photographed was a success. This is because this photograph again shows the bright colours very well and the texture of the liquid in detail. Furthermore the still motion of the liquid swirling makes this photograph very captivating and striking.
If I would go back and add to this shoot I would of taken more photographs to give myself more of a variety to edit and I also would of purchased more colours to see different combinations of colours. This would of made my photographs more creative and exciting to view.
The result of these photograph were influenced by two things. The first being the first project I did when I started in AS. This project was formal elements and the idea of shadows was the beginning of these photographs. This is because the reflecting liquids in the water create very different and interesting photographs to look at. The second influence was that in the mid project deadline we had a class discussion on our individual work and ideas were given this was one idea that was development therefore I was looking forward to shoot it.

Photographer 5
Niko Vas
The reason I have chosen Niko Vas as one of my photographers to explore further into his work to gain inspiration from is because of his diverse close up photographers. All his work is very abstract and different which I love. I feel that Niko Vas is a very creative photographer who I can gain a lot of inspiration from. I have explored into a lot of photographers because of the vibrant colours and textures. However the main reason I am looking more into Niko's work is because of his creative ideas and framing of all his work.
This photograph is a close up photograph of playing cards. I especially like the organisation of the playing cards as the centre of the photograph is the playing card showing a heart. This makes this photograph look very aesthetically pleasing because it creates an inspirational photograph. I also like how the colours look very vintage as the off white gives this affect. As well as the bright red which matches the con nations of a heart being love, romance and lust. In addition this photograph shows the technique closeup and this is very affective because it allows the detail in the playing cards to stand out more as well as the quality of the photograph to be seen as even more affective. The idea of using playing cards to photograph is something I really feel looks amazing therefore I will be using this photograph has a main influence for my own work. However changing the photographs slightly to show my own creativity coming through.
This photograph looks very surreal and different to other close up photographs I have explored and been influenced by. This photograph is a photograph of a flower however the editing part of this photograph looks very intense and unique as the photographer has managed to make the flower look fake. Furthermore by also having a blue background to match the flower makes the photograph look even more non realistic. In addition I like how the flower has been taken to the right hand side of the photograph this makes the photograph show the petals of the flower stretch out to cover all the space. This photograph I feel is very pretty and shows the technique close up very well because of the surreal affect and different tones and shades of the same colour.
This photograph is a close up of a rose and the colours and tones of this photograph stand out to me. This is because the red rose contains a very rich and vibrant colour which have conn nations of love and romance. Also the tones of this rose range from very dark to very light this makes this photograph look three dimensional which I really like. Furthermore I also really like how the rose is the only thing in the photograph this allows it to be the only main focus. In addition because the rose is in the centre of the photograph the centre makes the audience's eyes drawn to the darkness of the rose. This could show a hidden message that not all roses are positive. Overall I really like this close up photograph and feel that I could photograph roses in the studio to allow the lighting and tones to stand out.
The influence that I gain from Niko Vas's photography is the ideas and colours that he has used this is because he has mainly used colours that have a connantion to them. For example the colours red has connations of love. This then brings messages to his photography which I would like to bring to mine to allow the audience to see more than a picture. The close up photography he has took has also allowed me to expand on my own ideas for example the playing cards has given me an idea to shoot them however using the technique selective colours to hilight the hearts.
Overall Niko Vas's photography has given me a lot of inspiration and the best part of his work I like is that his photography isn't focused on one idea however a lot of ideas that influence each other. This is something that I am going to do with my own work as I feel that including different influences and ideas will best show the creativity of my work. Lastly I feel that Niko's work has been very interesting to look at and the ideas he has used has helped me hugely with my own photography.

Mid project review
Mid Project Review
- Facial features using vibrant make up and colours
- Reflection
- Food colouring video
- Wood frame on location
- Contrast background
- Materials from fashion
- Prefer studio shoots.
My personal project is called close ups and I am half way through my project so far. When looking back at my progress and improvements I need to make so far I feel that I am being more consistent with the photography shoots. This is because every week so far I have at least produced one shoot to include in my personal project. However to improve on this I feel that some of my personal shoots of close up could be more planned for example personal shoot 6 photographing close ups of fruit lead me to not having a variety of ideas to shoot. Therefore my photographs weren't as creative as I visualised them to be. In addition I feel that another aspect that I feel I have progressed in is the written essay as to begin with at the start of the project I found it very difficult to introduce fine art and elaborate on the affects it has on photography and its audience. However as my project went on I gathered a better understanding through other photographers therefore finding it easier to continue my essay to the best of my ability. Furthermore the practical aspect of this course allowed me to learn and experiment different techniques before beginning my personal project. Therefore I feel that in my work I have used at least two of these techniques which are animation and multiple imagery which shows my skills and make the photographs look more imaginative and creative. But to improve on this I feel that by using more of the techniques I have learnt will make my work look more interesting and will get me a better grade.
As part of my mid project review as a class we individually created a presentation showing 15 of our best photographs so far to share with each other. I feel that this was a very good idea as it allowed us to contribute with ideas for each other. As well as getting other peoples opinions on our work as to where it is going. The ideas that I gathered from this discussion were that my work is using close ups to express vibrant colours and that most of my work is studio based photographs. Also the shoot ideas that I gained from this discussion after explaining a few ideas I have were: Using facial features to express vibrant make up and colours, the use of reflection for example food colouring in water, a location shoot using a frame to capture close up textures and different material clashing. All these ideas I have taken on board and will develop and use the ones that I feel will make my personal project stronger.
Overall I feel that my personal project was beginning to get difficult with ideas every week. However by having a mid review with the class has allowed myself to gather thoughts and improvements for my own project as well as shoot ideas that I can use to make my project a success.
Photographer 4
Graham Owen
The reason I have chosen this photographer 'Graham Owen' as one of my photographers to explore even more into his work is because of his technique he uses in his work. For my personal project I am focusing on the technique close up as this is my project brief. Therefore by Graham Owens work being close up makes his work very inspirational for me. I especially like the warming and variety of tones in his work as this makes the whole photograph look very striking.
This photograph is a close up photograph of a butterfly stationary on a plant. The colours in this photograph contain very dark tones which makes this photograph look very mysterious. The photographer has captured this butterfly almost at the centre of the page. This will allow the viewer to be drawn directly to the main focus of the butterfly. I especially like how the plant is covering the whole background to allow the vibrant blue's on the butterfly to stand out and look very eye catching. In addition by using the technique close up allows the detail of the plants and butterfly to be seen much clearer as one of the main points about fine art is it allows the human eye to see beauty that they may not come across in their every day life.
This photograph is very good inspiration for my personal project close up. This is because this photograph includes the technique close up. The greatness about using close up in this photograph is that it it allows the shape of the dragon fly to be hilighted as well as the detail and colours to be seen much clearer. In addition what I find very intriguing about this photograph is how the dragon flies full body isn't in the shot. This is very interesting because it isn't an average photograph of the dragon fly in the centre of the photograph. However it allows a certain part of the dragon fly to be seen even more closer in contrast with the background. Furthermore the background in this photograph is blurred this makes the technique minimum depth of field to be shown in this photograph. As well as the background being very vibrant contrasts with the dark toned body of the dragon fly. overall I really like this photograph and see it as great inspiration for my own personal project.
This photograph is a photograph of a collection of butterflies at night resting stationary on leaves. This photograph is very unique as it looks very unrealistic and three dimensional. The reason for this is because the beaming colours of the butterflies bring out the shiny and silk texture very well and make them look very aesthetically pretty showing the true beauty of nature. Furthermore I really like how this close up photograph has focused on a group of butterflies instead of one indivdual butterfly this is because it makes this photograph very different and unique compared to other close up photographs I have viewed. Therefore giving me another idea that I can inspire to develop and attempt in my own photography work.
The influence that I have gained from Grahem Owen's work was that by capturing for example nature in close up I should focus on allowing the detail to be shown much clearer to show the natures beauty. The photographs that Grahem has captured are stunning and the angles he captures them in are all different. This allows me to gain the influence of including different angles in my work to make sure the photographs I capture show off the for example flower in the best angle possible.
Overall all his work best show how to make the colours and detail best stand out using the technique close up. I really like how the angles also allow the colours and detail to be shown with much more depth. This is because this then makes his work more intriguing to look at as it allows the viewers to see features they havnt noticed before which will amaze them.

Personal shoot 6- Work Diary
This photograph was taken for my personal project. The brief for my personal project is close up's which is shown as one of the techniques I had learnt before beginning this project. The vibrant colours in this photograph stand out to me because it grabs my attention straight away. This creates this photograph to look very eye catching and fun to look at. Furthermore the close up technique also brings out the texture of the orange slice very well. This is because of how close the detail is in the photograph which allows the delicate and juicy texture to be hilighted in this photograph. In addition I really like the framing of this photograph because it only captures the centre of the fruit which makes the orange the main focus. This makes this photograph even more eye catching because there is no distractions from the close up image. Overall I really like how this photograph turned out and feel that it is one of my strongest photographs in this shoot.
This photograph was also taken for my project brief close ups and is a photograph of a collection of orange slices. The editing process of this photograph was very easy however the outcome in my eyes looks very complex. To begin with I adjusted the curves and levels to create a very bright and vibrant photograph. Then I made a new layer and converted the image to black and white. This made it possible for me to rub out the black and white colour in the centre orange to show its beaming colour to begin with. The reason I chose to to keep the colors of the center orange is because that's where the viewers eyes are drawn to straight away therefore making this the main focus of the photograph.
I feel that this shoot went very well however if I would go back and improve this shoot I would of spent more time photographing as well as taking more photographs to give me a wider choice. Lastly I would of focused more on the melon as the vibrant colors I feel would work better for my project brief.
This shoot was influenced by the previous shoot that I took. This is because the previous shoot capturing sweets close up in my opinion wasn't one of my best shoots. Therefore I wanted to improve the shoot however by using a different food group. This is why I chose fruit as again I knew the tones and texture would create a very good close up selection of photographs.
