Martin Schoeller
I chose the photographer Martin Schoeller to explore further into his work because he captures close ups of the humans face and enhances their individual features by using this technique. He also uses well known celebrity faces to show their natural beauty which I like as it doesn't copy how the media portray them. Furthermore I also was intrigued with how he framed his photographs as they are very accurate and this will help me with framing my own photographers as when photographing close ups the detail and composition needs to be perfect for it to look professional.
This group of photographs is taken by the photographer Martin Schoeller and shows close up portraits. I really like this photograph as it shows how everyone is different and by putting different ages and genders together allows the uniqueness of each of them to stand out. The sharpness of these photographs are very high quality and the light grey backgrounds allow there natural beauty to stand out as well. I really like the idea of putting four photographs together as it makes the photographs look more interesting and eye catching to look at. Furthermore the framing of each photograph has been taken very neatly and accuately to allow the close up technique to be shown in each of them. The technique close up allows all there features to be shown with much clearer and bolder detail which is one of my favourite parts of this photograph.
This photograph was taken by the photographer 'Martin Schoeller' and the celebrity he has photographed is Angelina Jolie. The aim of this photograph is to show natural beauty and go against the media as most celebrities are shown in the media as very false. However to show the natural beauty of Angelina Jolie
her make up has been applied with soft tones and neutral colours. The framing of this photograph has been taken very well this is because the close up technique used in this photograph only has her face in the photograph this allows all her facial features to be shown with much better detail and quality. I really like the way the photograph is angled at this is because its slightly low angled to enhance her lips this makes the detail of her lips stand out and be seen as the main focus. Furthermore this could also create a seductive look for her however I feel it makes her natural beauty stand out.

This photograph was taken by the photographer Martin Schoeller and is taken of the celebrity Katy Perry. This photograph is more glamorous and the typical media photograph. This is because her make up has been applied with huge detail and her tones of make up are much darker. This photograph has been taken with a slight low angle to it this allows her cheek bones and lips to stand out more and make this photograph look more eye catching. I really like the vibrance and tones of her lipstick as it allows the glossy texture to stand out. Furthermore the framing of this photograph has been taken very well as there is no excess space or any other imagery distracting the main focus of this portrait. By using the technique close up allows all of her main facial features to stand out. For example her eyes look very bold and iconic which makes this photograph sensational and grab my attention immediately.
This photograph was also taken by the photographer Martin Schoeller and is a close up photograph of the celebrity Britney Spears. This photograph is very different to the photographs above as it has been converted to black and white. I really like this effect because it allows the light and dark tones to be seen more in detail and makes her facial features stand out. The complexity of her skin is flawless and this has makes this photograph look beautiful. Furthermore the use of the formal element tone also makes the main focus of her eyes stand out as the dark tones round them beam with boldness. In addition the use of the technique close up which is my personal project brief name is very affective because it allows the framing of this photograph to be very neat and well structured. As well as allowing all the detail that the viewers may not see if this photograph was taken as a wide angle for example. Overall I really like this photograph as it allows the natural beauty to be enhanced by the framing and editing skills of this photographer.
The influences that Martin Schoeller gave me for my own work were that having someones simple natural face which is facing directly at the camera is very affective and creates very nice tones. These photographs especially the photographs above have given me a start to an idea. This is where I will plan a shoot capturing close up photographs of a person's face focusing on bright colours which will be showing the idea of Martin Schoeller;s photographs expanded.
In summary I really like Martin's work as it concentrates on one idea for close ups. This allows me to get a better idea and understanding on how to accurately frame close up photographs using models and to plan a shoot that will have his inspiration included in it. I also really like how some of his photographs are in colour and some edited in black and white. This shows his editing techniques and how different tones can be shown in both. Overall Martin has been very interesting to explore and his work is again one of my influences that has allowed me to be successful in my shoots.
